UPDATES
The One on One meetings, Sophomore Summit and End of the Year Banquet are all required events for the program in Spring. Please do what you can to put these events in your calendar and get off work, find a babysitter, etc. For those with emergency situations, you can schedule a time to meet with Nate Wiley (natewiley@boisestate.edu) to make up for that missed event.
This is the inaugural year of our mentoring program. Please stick with us while we continue to improve and develop this great opportunity for Boise State students.
In order to ensure the success of all students receiving the Albertsons “Go On” Scholarship, participation in our First Year Mentorship Program is mandatory. That makes the program sound a little gloomy, but really, it’s a lot of fun! The following are the official program expectations for Fall and Spring Semesters:
Fall Semester Requirements
-Consistent communication with assigned mentor throughout the semester; this will mostly occur through monthly meetings, in small groups or one on one conversations
-Attend at least three (3) university events this semester
-Turn in a monthly journal entry of how things are going for you to your mentor
-Maintain a 3.0 GPA (cumulative)
-Complete 24 credits by the end of the year
Spring Semester Requirements
-Attend a brief One on One meeting at the beginning of Spring Semester between January 24 and February 4 (Location: New Student and Family Programs) with an Orientation Coordinator or Program Coordinator
-Attend the Sophomore Summit on Saturday, March 19 – 10am to 3pm (SUB)
-Attend the End of the Year Banquet on Tuesday, May 3 – 6pm to 8pm (Location TBD)
-Complete the Mentorship First-Year Survey at the Banquet
-Maintain a 3.0 GPA (cumulative)
-Complete at least 24 credits by the end of the year
You will notice that Spring Semester looks a little bit different than Fall Semester. Students are no longer required to monthly meet with their mentor or turn in journal entries. We will continue to host fun and educational programs, but (aside from the program expectations above) these are not required. The idea is that now that students have made it through their first semester, they are significantly more likely to persist!
